Activity 1: Conflict Resolution: Government Level

  • When Governments are confronted with conflict from within their own nation they must have a means of working through the conflict.
  • In Canada, most organizations use the same model as in the above activity but they may have larger and more complex issues to mediate and work through.
  • Read the handout
  • Why are the following issues controversial? How does a social organization, such as the government, deal with these types of conflicts?
    • enabling women to play a role in economic and political affairs outside of the family
    • preserving the family farm by giving farmers a fair price for their produce
    • giving the Aboriginal Peoples control over their economic, political, and legal affairs
    • setting aside one day per week as a day of rest
    • protecting the rights of minorities, however unpopular, to live their lives according to their consciences
    • protecting the rights of workers to form unions and withdraw their labour in a strike
